123 Signals Unit was a Ground Controlled Interception Radar Unit on the plateau outside RAF Habbaniya, Iraq. It was formed in July 1954 and closed in October 1958. The Unit had not been operational since the military coup in Baghdad on 14th July 1958. 123SU was reborn in 1964 at RAF Steamer Point, Aden and transferred to Bahrain in 1967. Was it still a GCI Unit ?
I have been in touch with several ex 123ers, mainly through the RAF Habbaniya Association (check their web site at www.habbaniya.org).
There is a Wikipedia page 123 Signals Unit RAF
