123 Signals Unit

123 Signals Unit was a Ground Controlled Interception Radar unit on the plateau outside RAF Habbaniya, Iraq. It was formed in July 1954 and closed in October 1958. The unit had not been operational since the military coup in Baghdad on 14th July 1958. 123SU was reborn in 1964 at RAF Steamer Point, Aden and transferred to Bahrain in1967. Was it still a GCI unit?
I have been in touch with several ex 123ers, mainly at the annual meeetings of the RAF Habbaniya Association (check out their web site at www.habbaniya.org) and other means, and wondered if it was possible to provide a site where anyone who served on the unit could make contacts, leave comments and messages, photos etc, etc.
This blog will most likely change shape several times or even die a lingering death due to lack of interest from anybody or laziness on my part.
I am now off to sort out some suitable photographs.
